Institute of Materials and Systems for Sustainability (IMaSS), Nagoya University has been certified as a “Joint Usage/Research Center of energy-friendly and sustainable energy-saving and energy-creating materials and systems research” by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Through joint usage and collaborative research with researchers from domestic and international universities and research institutions, we broadly promote research on energy-saving and energy-creating technologies. The Advanced Measurement Technology Center (AMTC), with the facility of High-Voltage Electron Microscopy Laboratory and the Research Facility for Advanced Science and Technology as its core, promotes the development of cutting-edge measurement technologies, their advancement, and materials science research utilizing these technologies, while also focusing on fostering technical expert who will lead manufacturing in the 21st century.

Now, we are seeking one Professor who can further develop the research activities at the Advanced Measurement Technology Center.


Research field and the professor to be considered
To realize a sustainable, resource-recycling society, developments of various environment-friendly energy-saving and energy-creating materials is required.

We are recruiting researchers who can pioneer new measurement and analysis technologies for electron microscopy based on materials science. We are looking for particularly talented individuals who can promote this research field in collaboration with domestic and international research institutions, as well as proactively engage in fostering technical expert in measurement and analysis technologies.

5) Eligibility for application

(1) Hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.).

(2) Have sufficient achievements, enthusiasm, and motivation for research in the above-mentioned field. Be able to establish and lead new academic fields through original measurement technologies.

(3) While centering on your own specialized research field, be able to carry out collaborative research projects within and outside the institute.

(4) Able to proactively commit to the administration of the Advanced Measurement Technology Center (AMTC) and the High-Voltage Electron Microscope Laboratory at IMaSS.

(5) Willing to cooperate with the management of the Department of Physical Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, and be able to teach lectures, seminars, and student laboratory experiments related to materials science.

(6) Able to supervise students in the doctoral course (both master’s and doctoral programs) at the Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Materials Physics.

Working hours and other benefits are determined in accordance with the provisions of the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System Employee Work Rules.

Working hours: Under the discretionary labor system for professional work, the employee is deemed to have worked 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and year-end and New Year holidays from December 29 to January 3.

Insurance: Coverage includes the MEXT Mutual Aid Association, employees’ pension insurance, workers’ accident compensation insurance, and employment insurance.

Measures to prevent passive smoking: In principle, smoking is prohibited on campus.

9) "Deemed exports" in security export control

In November 2021, with the clarification of the scope of control of “deemed exports” under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act (“FEFTA”), a portion of the provision of confidential information must comply with FEFTA. Technology provided by universities and research institutions to faculty and staff is FEFTA is subject to control. As a result of this change, faculty applications will also be subject to FEFTA controls. In November 2021, with the clarification of the scope of control for “deemed exports” under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act (“FEFTA”), some provision of sensitive technology to faculty members and students by universities and research institutions has become subject to control under the FEFTA. Consistent with this change, when applying for faculty positions or studying at the University, faculty, staff, and students will be required to submit a “Declaration of applicable specific categories” based on the “Flowchart for determining applicable specific categories.” Faculty, staff, and some students will also be required to submit a “Confirmation Form” at the time of their recruitment or admission.
