At Toyoda Gosei, I have been working on developments of vertical GaN devices, mainly related to device and process technologies, and feasibility studies of the devices as power devices. In this Collaborative Chair, I will be involved in research on evaluation and analysis of device reliability, which will be issues for practical application, and discovery of applications that can take advantage of the characteristics of vertical GaN devices. In this division, I will conduct research aimed at constructing a next generation of safe and secure power transmission and distribution systems with a view of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Specifically, we will propose power transmission and distribution systems for developing the energy infrastructure that will serve as the foundation of a sustainable society, assuming various events that may occur when many renewable energies such as solar power and offshore wind power are connected to the conventional power transmission and distribution system. We are acceralating the spread of GaN e-beam devices, which is a new application of GaN-based semiconductors in industry, thorough the collaborative work with Photo electron Soul Inc., a start-up company originating from Nagoya University. In the process of e-beam generation using GaN-based photocathode, characteristics of e-beam are greatly influenced by the size, beam profiles and temporal profiles of excitation laser. I have been focusing on a crystal growth technique such as halide vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE) to establish crystal growth technology for high-voltage GaN vertical power device structures. I will continue my efforts to establish such growth technology. I would also like to work on the development of high-performance GaN power devices using the HVPE method. I have been conducting research on neutrinos, a type of elementary particle, with a focus on the technological development of a particle detector called a \"nuclear emulsion\". <\/span><span>Currently, I am leading the research group of NINJA, an experiment for precise measurement of neutrino interactions using the J-PARC accelerator in Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture, as a principal investigator. <\/span><span>In the course of our research, we are beginning to see the possibility of technological applications such as diagnostics of accelerators using nuclear emulsion, and I would like to expand our research into practical applications as well as basic research. Through cooperative research between Nagoya University and MIRISE Technologies, we would like to aim for the early commercialization of GaN power devices. Until now, I was engaged in the development of GaN dry etching process and GaN epi-growth process. After taking office, I will be in charge of preparing and designing GaN devices for low loss and high switching. I would like to aim for the development of academia and industry through exchanges and collaborations with the teachers of IMaSS and everyone in the industry. My goals are practical realization and performance improvement of GaN-based semiconductor photocathodes as electron beam devices, not optical devices, or power devices. I will engage in research and development to renovate the conventional electron beam source using a more durable GaN-based semiconductor photocathode and bring the innovation for the observation and processing technology using the electron beam.
